It's a novella - easily read in one gulp - unless you're out shopping - I did get a large part read while eating lunch. 

It wasn't quite as engrossing as Cryoburn or even my first exposure to the Vorkosigan's world (The Warrior's Apprentice) - but it was new Vorkosigan and there were a couple of references that really rang in my memory...you'll probably guess them when you see them...references to how someone was referred to in their youth...if you've read the rest, you'll know it when you see it.  If not - well, go read the rest - it's well worth it!

One of the books is a homage to Georgette Heyer's "Regency Romances" and etiquette plays an important part in the plot - which made it all the more delicious - A Civil Campaign.  Sigh - it ends in more than one engagement and one marriage - it was fun.

As far as literature goes, I'm almost finished with Kate Mulgrew's "Born With Teeth." She played Janeway on Voyager, and it's her biography. I also love Craig Ferguson's books.

I've been reading primarily on my kindle for a couple years now and have become a voracious consumer of trashy romance, which I never read when I had to carry a book around as I wouldn't have wanted anyone to know I was reading it.  Took my kid to the library last weekend and got a couple appropriate for public books to try to break the grip the romance world has on me.   :D

YES!!! i don't have to worry about someone seeing the cover, though I do worry about people who like to read over your shoulder.

If you are in to cozy mysteries with a touch of romance, Her Royal Spyness is a great series. Katherine Kellgren was an amazing reader. Sadly, she passed away recently. I don't know who will read the newest book. She was really young, but read so many fantastic books!

I'm reading this too, it's wonderful.  It's about the history of humans and how we evolved, and it's very well-written.

In nonfiction I also recently loved The Stranger in the Woods: The Extraordiniary Story of the Last True Hermit by Michael Finkel.  Just lovely and fascinating.

I'm also reading (actually listening to) The Road to Little Dribbling by Bill Bryson. Waiting behind that on audio is City of Bones by Michael Connelly. I am slowly working my way through all the Michael Connelly books in order. And waiting behind THAT is The Storyteller by Jody Picoult which is our next book in the book club I'm in.

In paper form, I am working on Mildred Pierce, having watched both versions of the movie, i.e., the 1945 version for which Joan Crawford won an Oscar and the 2011 HBO miniseries starring Kate Winslet.

I was on a long plane trip in March and I brought Little Fires Everywhere to read, and finished it quickly. Summary - 2 very different families who start off as friends and then clash when they find themselves on different sides of a local issue.

I loved that book! If you haven't already, check out her first novel, Everything I Never Told You. It's just as good :)

I am reading Jane Austen's England by Roy and Lesley Adkins. Coincidentally similar in subject to a previous poster's reading. It's a non-fiction account of what life was like in Regency England, full of contemporary quotes from various parsons and letter-writers and so forth. It's kind of dry and academic but I like that sort of thing.

Spoiler: Life in the past was horrible.

Just bought Flowers of Vashnoi as a kindle book. Have all the others (reread multiple times). Still have all my Georgette Heyer books too. Hadn’t made the connection but can see what you mean.

Finishing up the James Comey book before it has to go back to the library.  After that it's either a book on the Plantagenets, or Irish history.  And then start figuring out what to take on my trip in September.

I love audiobooks as well as books. I only listen in my car so it can take me quite a while to get through one. And with only the rarest of exceptions I read nonfiction.

But right now, I am just past the middle of a translated German novel called April in Paris. Holy cow, this is one I am going to remember for a long time! It is set in occupied Paris (1943) and is written from the perspective of a German who was involuntarily (and supposedly temporarily) transferred from his regular duty to Gestapo headquarters to act as the recorder and translator for the interrogations/torture of Parisians engaged in underground activities. He has, however, developed a love of Paris and its occupants and is a book lover as well. When he sees a woman reading a book he is intrigued by her and discovers her father owns a bookstore and that she also works in a nearby barber shop. As you can imagine, they become involved and their underground activities play a large role in the story. It is very, very difficult to hear at times, though it is not too graphic, and I am utterly, totally captivated by it as well as held hostage. The reader too is excellent. I can't stop listening. It has grabbed me and won't let go.

I give this book my highest recommendation. Whether audio or print, I think many here might like it, especially if history is one of your interests.

"The Demon's Brood:A History of the Plantagenet Dynasty," by Desmond Seward.  Was browsing through the history section at the library and it looked good.  Mainly because I know a lot about Tudor and Stewart history, but not before then.

There was also a good book I just read comparing Shakespeare's history plays to the actual history.   Was fascinating.

I'm in the middle of Margaret Atwood's Stone Mattress, having just finished (and really liked, which seems to be a fairly unpopular opinion) her The Heart Goes Last.

I'm also reading Blatt's Nabokov's Favorite Word is Mauve. Not yet sure what I think about that one.
