The Handmaid's Tale
« on: June 09, 2018, 01:10:21 pm »
Now in its second season.

I like the expansion the series has made. There are a few things I would have changed that do not alter the plot. But otherwise they are doing a great job.

My favorite character is Serena Joy, although Emily is a close second.

Regarding the latest episode, would Fred have behaved as horribly had he not been injured by the explosion? Do you think this is a result of a traumatic brain injury altering his personality- or did he simply keep this side of him well hidden?

I am intrigued by Serena's character; she isn't as one-dimensional as one might have thought at first. I sense some deep resentment, and a great deal of strength in her, but as to how she will use it, I'm not sure.

Fred, I suspect, was really rattled by the explosion; it shook the seemingly solid foundation of his power, so he's reverting to the more militant structure that he was always supposed to believe in.

Eden is a wild card; she is trying to do what she was raised to do, but she's been tossed into an utter mess of intrigue and shadows.

And I wonder why Janine is like a cat with 9 lives! She is such a complete screw-up, lovable as can be, but she manages to dodge death constantly, while others who did the same things that did would have been dead last season.

I am seriously loving this show.  This has been one of my favorite books since I studied it as a lit major in college.  I agree that they are doing a great job so far with season 2.  I've read that Margaret Atwood in very involved, which is so awesome.

The Eden character is absolutely chilling.  Nick kind of annoyed me in the first season but he's growing on me.

I think the acting is top notch.  Especially Elizabeth Moss.

I'm an episode behind, I watched the first 3 then took a break.  Last week I watched another 4 (I think, I know I have one left, I think it's 8 ).  I love the show, but I walk away deeply depressed.  I was so happy to see her getting away earlier this season and when they caught her I couldn't watch again for over a month!  Emily and Moira are my favorites, Serena Joy and Fred both give me the creeps.  I haven't see Fred's freakout, but I've seen enough spoilers to know what's coming.  I'm not surprised a bit.  I think he's a horrible person who's letting it all out now that he can.

I like that all of the characters are getting more backstory.

I hesitated to watch the series because the book was so good, but they've done a wonderful job so far.

Seriously loving this show! I own the first season, watched half of it with a friend, and am trying hard not to finish the season without her. The series is so much creepier than the book, the movie, and the opera.

Episode 10 of season 2 was just plain painful to watch.

I had read the various warnings.

I had gotten spoilers about what happened to Nick.

I had read spoilers regarding Hannah.

I had even gotten spoilers regarding Emily's new situation and its outcome.

NOTHING prepared me for the most horrific part of the episode. I did not see it coming.

No matter how science may prove it may result in the desired outcome, it is in no way justified or justifiable.

I have had to look away many times from Game of Thrones. I have to close my eyes and look away when there are flashing/strobe lights. But I did not see it coming that they would show something so horrible in this show.
