Are We Circling the Drain?
« on: November 08, 2018, 08:43:37 am »
So I've noticed that traffic has really slowed down around here, to the point where if there is a single post in a day, it's time for *\o/*.

Just wondering if people have just lost interest or migrated over to that other board, or what.

I know I haven't posted as much, lately.

I've noticed it as well, and it's disappointing to me because I remembered how much I enjoy these kinds of discussions. And I feel so much more freedom here to express myself accurately, instead of being so careful and dancing around contentious points like at the original place.

If people are gathering somewhere else, I'd like to know about it and check it out.

But, it may just be that people are busy, and this kind of thing needs a certain mass to be successful--if no one answers, no one will post, and if no one posts, no one can answer, you know?

I agree with feeling much more free to express myself here.  I am participating in the other board because it's better than nothing but I'd like to see more activity on this board.

Honestly, with FB I’m quite set - I sort of hate read the other forum but will never post there. I suspect forums in general are a dying breed.

What other forums are people using, specifically? I won't go back to the Brimstone one. And it seems like the Manners World one, created about the same time as this one, gets even less traffic.

I'm also sad to see little traffic here. It started out so well but it was mostly venting in the beginning. Now that the dust has settled, there are hardly any new topics. I think one of the problems is so few posters are starting new threads. The "other board" start new threads every time a thought pop into their heads. Maybe we should do that too.

I wish I could contribute more, but given that I spend most of my time alone, not much happens in my life that I could bring up for discussion here.  :(
I deleted my account on the Brimstone forum and don't intend to make another one, although I still read it every now and then. Just a short while ago, the admin there delete some posts again because she didn't like what they said, so to me it seems like the problems that forum used to have are still there.
I hope we can get more active again. Maybe once the Christmas stress sets in. Big holidays and family events seem to create a lot of stories.

Same here. I prefer this board but there's so little activity, that I find myself spending more time on Brimstone.

So... each of us who posted on this thread, how about we each start a thread on this board. I bet we can all come up with at least one topic! I'll start.

I think that's a great idea. I've responded to your thread and started one of my own. Since the restrictions are looser here, I don't think we have to worry about whether something is strictly etiquette-related or not, it could just be something you've wondered about, would like to hear other thoughts on, even a rant-but-wanting-thoughts.

I've noticed that traffic is down as well. I do hope we're not circling the drain, as I like the community here, I think we've had some fun discussions, and I would hate to see it slip away. So I would say by all means, don't hesitate to post! I mean, please don't come here and ask us to run every aspect of your life for you, but also don't be afraid so post something that seems silly or is just an interesting hypothetical.  Whatever you're wondering about or whatever pops in your head, give it a go- sometimes it's the oddest topics that generate the best discussions.

Also, tell your friends! Let's get some new blood in here and shake things up!

I admit I fell off to when it seemed as if I came here several days in a row and there were no new posts. I tried to think of things to say but (fortunately, I guess, though not for this forum) I have no drama at work or in my personal life now. No MIL or sister stories, no boss or co-worker issues, nothing breaking down and frustrating me, no holiday horror stories upcoming, etc.

So I did start a thread over at Brimstone that encompassed something I found on the old Ehell blog, a Gratitude Calendar for November. It's only getting mild interest over there, which surprised me, but I think this is something we should do here even though it's almost the middle of the month (But, hell, gratitude is good any time, right?) I will. Check out the General Life folder.

I agree that this place is the best of the three. I thought so from the time that awful banning happened at Brimstone. I wish that hadn't happened but it did, and I am grateful that this was the result.

So, yes, let's please come more often and post more often. Doesn't anyone (else) have family issues? ::) that could use some opinions?  :P

This may take some time to get to the rousing stage but we can do it!

I think I just discovered one of the problems.  The 'Show unread posts since last visit' button isn't working for me.  'Show new replies to your posts' is working but that only works for threads I've posted in.  I have to go to the Home button and just scroll down and see if there are any other posts that I missed.

If someone could report this post to a mod?  I don't think I can do it myself...

That's odd. It works for me. Do you usually mark all topics as read? If not, maybe try doing that and retrying the "new messages" buttons a few hours later. Maybe it'll fix the problem.

STiG's right. If I click on Unread Posts Since Last Visit, sometimes I get them but usually I don't. It says there are none but offers All Unread Posts. If I click that, there are new posts since I was here last. I do mark all as read, so I don't think it's that. It's been doing it for quite a long time.
