Polite Paradise

Feels like the end of the school year. You know, the one where you had a really big pain in the arse teacher, who had obvious favorites, but you were cool with other kids in the class.

It sucks that Etiquette Hell became what it did. When I first found it, some of the stories made me laugh until I was in tears.

That's when I first encountered the original site. I loved the stories! I was happy to see a forum, but the character of the site changed, and I waffled about joining and never did. Was tempted a few times, but then I'd see an example of the ridiculous modding and closed the window before submitting a user ID and password.

By the way, I popped over to BMB a few days ago. If you want to join that site, your membership must be approved first. Here, I got the express treatment - no approval needed. I got the Welcome to Polite Paradise email right away and was able to start posting right away.

Approvals needed before you can be a member of a public forum seems snobby to me.

It does remind me of Ehell in a way. I used to play Farmville and a bunch of other FB games years back and somebody on Ehell started a thread asking if anybody played those games and wanted neighbors, so we added each other to play these games. It was before any of the groups were made but that's how it started for me. From Farmville player to a so-called "Mean Girl", haha.

I can't help thinking that maybe Jeanne's recent health issues (2nd bout of cancer, I think) had a lot to do with shutting the place down.  Heck, the chemo might have even made her a little crazier than usual.  Doesn't excuse any of it, but I'm going to give her that anyway.  I do hope getting away from Ehell gives her some peace at least.  We all know cancer is horrible.  I wouldn't want even my worst enemy to go through it.

Cancer is horrible and in the last few years three loved ones have died because of it. None have turned into a raging asswipe like Jeanne did.

I think a lot more to do with GDPR and the fact she had no friends left.

I'm not saying it made her a rage machine, just that it certainly didn't help.  Much like alcohol or recreational drugs, chemo and serious illness can and often does magnify a person's personality.

I'm impressed that ehell managed to go out both with a big bang and a whimper.
