Title: What we’re all about.
Post by: Poesie on June 01, 2018, 09:27:33 pm
So far most of us have a shared history with a specific etiquette board and/or it’s earlier incarnations. In that context, this board makes total sense as does the stuff about low moderation, etc. Also love the 3 simple rules in the top right corner.

Was just thinking about what we’d want to say to new guests/members without that shared history to help them get what we’re on about and help them decided if they want to participate and how.

We actually have been thinking about this.  Any suggestions would be welcome, of course, but we are "on it" so I don't want you to worry that we're just all "okay, it's set up, now hands off forever."

Excellent (that you’re on it *and* still open to suggestions). You’ve done a great job setting up the site at the drop of a hanky. Love the light touches of humour all round, like the toucha da fishy link on the pet board.

Already feel way more relaxed here. And like, if I make a mistake, i might be a little embarrassed but won’t get thrown into a pool of piranhas (no toucha da fishy!). Would really like this board to continue to do well and thrive.

I appreciate that!

Just remember this board is nothing without people that want to be an active part of it and post content others want to read and respond to.  So we'll always be open to suggestions and feedback.  Otherwise this place will wither and die.

I was toying with the idea of writing up a kind of brief history of this forum for newcomers. Nothing in excruciating detail because how would you even do that (???), but a kind of introductory document outlining the demise of Etiquette Hell and the rise of PP and how it came out of a shared history and in response to a specific event, but everybody is welcome to join and hang out, regardless of whether they share that history or not. I might wait for things to get a bit more settled, though, and maybe see how things shake out with Manners World (if we decide to merge or something).

I was a member of Ehell for a few years, but was on holiday when the proverbial hit the fan.  I have no idea what happened...

Had been taking a break from ehell and hadn’t logged on in months. Came back when the closure was announced. Then caught some of the drama. Spoke up about the doxxing on ehell because I was appalled. Watched BMB for a while to see how things were going and saw the start of the drama there, then it all went private. Although it’s opened up again since, you can’t even read the rules for the site as a guest now which would make me uneasy. There are a couple of threads talking about the fallout in the hugs/venting section here if you haven’t looked. Also picked up some stuff I would have missed by reading the GOMI thread about ehell (nasty but informative) - wouldn’t have known about that site (or the infamous FB group) if it hadn’t been mentioned on the old forum.

Thanks Poesie.
