General Life / Re: Ethics of Gender Reveal Party
« on: October 05, 2018, 01:32:01 pm »
This morning I was listening to the Beaverton's podcast. The Beaverton is a Canadian satirical news site and they have a podcast and a TV show. They had their "Real News or Fake News" quiz at the end and this was one of the stories. It's real news.

Border patrol agent's gender reveal party ignited a 47,000-acre wildfire
https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/02/us/az-off-duty-border-patrol-agent-wildfire/index.html

I love the last line of the article: "Dickey has not revealed the gender of his baby, KGUN reported."

Couldn't tell the color of the powder 'cause of ... you know, the fire and stuff.

Oh good grief!  Does every single event in the whole world have to become a political tirade of some sort.

A gender reveal is just a party.  Just go or don't go and let it be.

Both years he blatantly lied to you and then was not even embarrassed enough to avoid posting pictures of his real activities on media.

I personally would not be unfriendly toward him, but I also would not invite him again.  He has made it clear that you are not high on his list of priorities.

Have had frogs come up through the toilet (during rainy seasons in more tropical zones of Australia). May be worth checking if there’s some way they’re getting into the pipes.

http://sec1031.com/2015/09/03/hoppy-days-ahead-what-to-do-if-you-find-frogs-in-the-toilet/

One year we were at Disney World with our kids and we had been to the Luau.  My then 5 year old had to use the restroom so I went with her, but let her go into the stall herself.  She immediately came flying back out and announced that there were 'moving poopies' all over the toilet seat.
I went in to investigate and everyone else in the restroom was quite amused to see the toilet seat almost covered with teeny, tiny frogs.  Scared the daylights out of my kid, but everyone else thought it was pretty funny.
Eventually some brave lady picked them up two at a time and moved them outside.  It took her four trips!

I predict Grumpy Old Man Cat will eventually notice that Rex looks up to him admiringly and he'll be won over.

My understanding is that Central Perk is now open as a museum like place and the real life original Gunther is there!

Thank you so much for this!   I think I now have a new playground to go to on rainy days.   :-* :D

I am aware that trees can be planted but I'm in my 50s and don't have 30 or 40 years for them to grow into the large shade trees I want.

Carpeting - yes I also am aware that it can be pulled up -- I did that when I moved into my present house, personally pulling up an incredible number of staples and padding that was stuck to the old hardwood.  Then I had to move all of my furniture into the kitchen in order to have the floors refishished.  That is why when the OP asked what would be dealbreakers, one of mine was "carpeting."

Honestly, why nitpick over someone else's answers to a conversational question?

I'm sorry Foxglove.  You are right and I certainly didn't mean to nitpick.

The point I was hoping to make is that it is very rarely the case that you find exactly 100% of what you were hoping for in a home, so my thinking was that if someone found a home with the perfect floor plan, in the perfect location and even in the perfect price range, it might be possible to compensate for those 'deal breaker' things rather than find a house with all hardwood floors and dozens of trees but which had none of the other things the buyer would need or like.   Obviously I missed the mark.

...  Dealbreakers:  Carpeting, no trees/shade, well water.  probably HOA.

You can pull up carpeting fairly easily and you can also plant trees yourself.  Tiny ones can be planted and they grow very rapidly the first few years.  Big old ones, on the other hand, often die and have to be professionally cut down.

Another one that happened to me on Friday:  People who leave leaflets stuck under cars' windshield wipers.  IMO, doing that is no better littering their leaflets all over the parking lot/ramp.

It's worse because not only are they making a mess, but sometimes they're very careless and have been known to actually break windshield wipers.

Now that's a nice story!  Makes me smile just to read about it.  Good kid.   Good Mom!

... we believe it was deliberately set by the grandson of the owner of the mower, who lives with her...

Is the grandson a child or an adult?  And has he always lived with his grandmother or just recently?

...   And we're a little worried, do to other things that have happened in the neighbourhood.

Are these "things" happening only to you or to lots of different people in your neighborhood?
