California Fires and Donald Trump
« on: November 10, 2018, 08:58:03 pm »
I rarely participate in political discussions because I am so sick of politics as it is today (and I don't mean just Trump). However, while we in California are battling or fearfully watching the fires rip through horrendous amounts of land Trump came out of his usual ass-holery to prove himself particularly vile (IN MY OPINION) by saying that federal aid was not going to happen anymore because we don't manage our forests properly.

If you want to imagine my mind when I read that try for the darkest, deepest, foulest thoughts possible, then multiple them by the power of 100,000,000,000,000,000,000 suns. You might be close. Maybe. I wonder if this might turn people against him as the fires end (hopefully, soon) and so many people face lives that essentially need to begin from scratch.

ETA: Hmm, I don't know how Trump's name in the subject line turned weird. I don't make fun of people, even people I loathe, by deliberately misspelling their names. So I just changed it back to normal.

I don't remember being this upset over a president's behavior ever.  Clinton's treatment of his intern upset me, Nixon's tapes, daily (!) issues with trump (spitefully taking the capital letter from his name, sorry for my pettiness).

It is beyond appalling. I agree with you about Nixon, Clinton, etc., but this one really takes the cake. And it amazes me how people just shrug and go on. It's like nothing he says sticks because it seems that no one's attention is any longer than his is. But the comment about the fires has me enraged.

I wish we had a "hugs" or "I support you" button. I totally agree about Trump and his cronies, I often wake up and have trouble believing he is our president, like we are in some kind of near-future movie about how the dystopia began. People in power have always abused it, but the system overall has more or less worked--Clinton did get impeached and humiliated, and five hundred years from now it will still be mentioned even if there's only a brief paragraph about his presidency (and rightly so). Nixon did bad stuff but he got caught and had to resign. The thing with Trump is, he says, "Why do I have to respect the system?" Like what if someone impeaches him and he just doesn't show up? There's probably not a mechanism for physically forcing the President of the United States to do something, because no one ever thought it would be necessary. I think he's like a sullen, spoiled five-year-old, except without the excuse of actually being a child, who's surrounded by enablers and people who are out for their own advantage. And it scares me what they have done already, and could do in the future.

He reminds me of the kid in the sandbox when the others won't play nicely with him; he takes his ball and goes home.  Or takes his ball and goes to another sandbox and won't let anyone else into it until they lick his boots.   ::)

I was appalled at him not visiting the graves in France because it was raining.  The poor dear.  And then he opened his piehole and blamed the fires on the Democrats in California not managing their forests properly?  When most of those forests are in FEDERAL parks?  Yeah...

I'm so sorry you folks have to deal with the big orange bag of wind.

I've never understood that phrase, "taking one's ball and going home," like it's a bad thing--I can totally respect if someone looks around, decides they don't like how other people act, and goes home quietly, realizing they can have a good time by themselves or with a small, select group of friends. That's exactly what I would do.

But Trump is like the kid who demands to be the boss of the other kids, and when they don't go along with it, he gets the whole playground shut down, he gets EVERY playground shut down, and the only way a kid can get back in is to suck up to him. I think it's not even about him being happy, it's just about him being the king. It's incredibly sad, actually.

One of the things I hate the most about the FB and other discussion pages devoted to the fires (and to people asking for and offering help to others like this: https://www.facebook.com/crisisresponse/the-woolsey-fire-in-southern-california-usa-nov08-2018/support/ ) is the occasional post by some lighthead who uses it to espouse generally ignorant and inflammatory political-type comments. One the other day called Governor Jerry Brown "clown brown" and there have been several attacking liberal and Democratic viewpoints. Fortunately, these are generally called out by people pointing out that politics has no place on the page but I really dislike it. Keep it on pages that are not neighbor-helping-neighbor ones.
