G7
« on: June 11, 2018, 02:01:57 pm »
So, I checked out of the internet for a couple of days. Came back and... WTF??

You know things went sideways when the leader of the Official Opposition in Canada plus the heads of most of the provincial conservative parties had to tweet out their support for the Prime Minister. And now it seems that half of Canada is throwing their hands up and saying, "Screw it. Lets just go make better friends with Europe," and the other half are crafting a plan to burn down the White House again just to prove that we're not very polite after all and everything is bonkers.

We truly live in the stupidest timeline.

Best summary of the current situation I've ever seen. So...where do you store your White House burning torch when you aren't using it? ;)

I have to ask, what is Pres. Trump's problem with Trudeau? It seemed like his tweets just came out of nowhere. I thought they had been on friendly terms not that long ago.

It seems our president does not do well at keeping friends.  *sigh*

I don’t get the sense it’s specific to Trudeau - that behaviour seems to be a function of his personality.

Yeah, if you are looking for a "why" or any kind of logical sense, I don't think you're going to find it.

True. Yeah, I just find it troubling that he picks fights with our allies and cozies up to our enemies. Not to mention his immature, bullying behavior.

I did have to laugh at the media freaking out because Trump made a "burn down the White House" comment and the American media was like "he shouldn't blame Canadians, it was the British!" and we're like, uh, you know we're proud of that right?

/kinda sorta tongue in cheek.

but really no better way to possibly lift Trudeau's approval ratings by having Trump publicly go after him for basically nothing! Obviously Trudeau organized it behind the scenes to make Trump angry! (super joking!)

In the garage under the ski doo with all my toques of course. Isn’t that where everyone keeps it??   ;D

I mean there’s probably a million stupid, petty reasons, but this article goes into some of what went down if you’re interested.

You can pry my poutine from my COLD, DEAD HANDS you terrible American!!!

Here’s one from a centre-right Canadian columnist (though full disclosure he’s married to a Liberal cabinet minister. But he’s been a notable Conservative pundit until the last election.) funny how differing political views don’t have to ruin a marriage.

If anyone is curious, here is the G7 Communique that Trump refused to sign and left, tweeting insults as soon as he was safely away from our former allies.
