I've seen people refer to Trump as 45.  What's the reference?

And I saw a great joke on Facebook:

Triple Crown Winner Justify has declined an invitation to the White House.  When asked why, he replied, 'If I'd wanted to see a horse's ass, I'd have finished 2nd!'

He’s the 45th President of the USA?

That would be it!  Not American so I don't keep track.  Thank you.  Not that I keep track of the number of my own leader, either, mind you.   ;)

Not American either. Don’t count my own leaders (PMs) but for some reason that number stuck.

I refer to him as 45 because I refuse to use his name. The only other times a president/former president of the US is referenced by number is to differentiate between the Bush 43 and Bush 41 administrations.

So I saw this thing the other day about the Queen and Trump.  He completely disrespected her and completely disregarded Royal protocol when he was there.  Hell, he completely disregarded gentlemanly protocol, which is in no way surprising.

A particularly keen eyed Royal watcher happened to notice the brooches that the Queen wore during her meetings with Trump.  The first one was given to her as a personal gift by the Obamas.  Not a gift from America while Obama was in power but a personal gift from Michelle and Barrack, themselves.  The second was a gift from Canada that was in the shape of a snowflake.  You know, the country that is America's closest trading partner that Trump is trying to screw over.  And he's apparently called some people snowflakes?  I haven't heard that one but then, I usually change the station ASAP whenever there is a clip of him speaking.  And the third brooch?  Was worn by the Queen Mother at King George's funeral and is known as '3 Queens in mourning'.

The official line is that these particular pieces were chosen because they matched her outfits well but she's far to shrewd for it to be a complete coincidence.  And it would go completely over Trump's head, anyway, even if someone told him which pieces she was wearing.

What happened?

From what I heard, he didn't bow, as is protocol.  He turned his back on the Queen, he was walking in front of her and just generally being his charming self.

IMO, a gentleman would always walk half a step behind a lady; should she stumble, the gentleman is in a position to assist.  In the photo of them inspecting the troops, he's at least 2 steps ahead of her.

I get that she isn't America's Queen and if you don't want to follow all the royal protocol, some of which is a bit over the top, fine.  But for Pete's sake, at least act like a gentleman!

I didn’t see what happened, nor am I defending Trump (especially since I don’t know what happened here), but I disagree with statements that a man should treat a person differently because she is a woman. Women have worked hard for equality and I don’t think they can also simultaneously demand special treatment due to gender. All people should treat all people with the same respect, in my opinion.

Actually many Americans are quite enchanted by the Royal Family, so from a standpoint of curiosity at least and given that we have nothing similar to it, she sort of is America's queen.

The Queen is in a category of her own.  She is not expecting to be treated as an equal and I don't know of anyone who thinks she should.  I remember how horrified some people (in both countries!) were that Michelle Obama actually touched the Queen.  Apparently that is totally against protocol, though the Queen reacted sweetly to it.  I think she liked the Obamas.   :)

Thanks for that, Free Range Hippy Chick. I mostly ignore him but I am not the least bit surprised. He is all about himself, 24/7.

He also kept the Queen waiting...

He was doing his '80's "alpha" male shtick.  Of course when he met with Putin he was more than happy to be the subservient.

If he's waiting for the Queen to be impressed, he'll wait a long time - she's seen off better men than him. Apparently, she's a really good mimic, so no prizes for guessing what her Christmas party trick will be.
